Once you pass the Confusion phase, you just time for you to start asking the right questions.
Here I want to take a look at some of those questions, and some short tips.
How do I prepare my resume?
- Use the help of a professional. You can hire a resume coach or you can use the free help of an employment counsellor.
- Steal like an artist. Google and find those champion resumes for your job title. You can take the whole sentences, modify them, change the wording, and make them yours. Be smart about it. You don't want to be accused of plagiarism.
- Understand how the hiring system works. See guidance of the insiders - those who work on the receiving end of the resume (HR, Talents Acquisition, Career coaches)
How do I polish my interview skills?
- Use the help of a professional. Book a mock interview with an employment counsellor.
- Record the video of yourself and use it as feedback.
- Separate all possible questions into two categories: technical and behavioral. Write scripts of your answers for both types of questions.
- Rehearse, rehearse, rehearse. People say: "be natural, be spontaneous in the interview" but what they don't say is that the only way to be natural and spontaneous is to actually know your stuff. By heart.
How do I make people do what I want them to do?
This is the essence of practical intelligence.
A lot of it comes from understanding how human psychology works. And another aspect of it comes from understanding your own psychology, self-awareness, and your ability to model your own behavior.
The foundation of practical intelligence is the ability to ask yourself the right questions.
Think as all parties involved in the job development and hiring process.
- How do I make my employment counsellor happy so that they feel comfortable referring me to a job developer?
