“If you want to find a job, you gotta - Network! Network! Network!”
Everyone is saying the same things, but how do you actually do it?
I will share my take on relationship-building in this article.
First, before we start, some puzzle pieces 🧩 for you to consider:
- You will hear this a lot “Your Net-worth is your Net-work”. It’s true. People lose jobs every day. Your network is your safety net to fall on. Trust me, the solid ground feels much harder if you don’t have it.
- Rethink “personal branding”. Branding is for products. What people have is called reputation.
- Networking is not about how many people you know. It is about how many people know you.
- Networking is relationship building. Relationships are built on trust. Trust requires time.
- Thus, networking is not hunting for new contacts. It is farming.
- Why network? If you have a bridge-person within the organization you 10X your chances of securing the job.
